Figures in sealed boxes, where the design from a series of usually 8–12 designs is only settled on opening.
More about Blind Box
With a Blind Box, the contents are not settled until it is opened. A series usually comprises eight to twelve designs that cannot be told apart from the outside; neither buyer nor seller knows beforehand which one is in the box.
The principle is closely related to gashapon, the capsule vending machines that came to Japan from the USA in 1965 and have been developed by Bandai since 1977. There, too, are series that collectors want to complete; the Blind Box puts the figure in a cardboard box instead of a capsule.
In anime, Nendoroid Surprise from Good Smile Company is a typical example: figures 70 mm tall, where both the body and an additional part in the box are random.
