Metal Gear Solid was released for the PlayStation in 1998, developed and published by Konami. Hideo Kojima directed, produced and wrote the game. It continues the Metal Gear series and follows on from the MSX2 title Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990).
At its centre is Solid Snake, a former Special Forces operative who infiltrates the nuclear facility Shadow Moses. There the FOXHOUND unit under Liquid Snake holds hostages and controls Metal Gear REX, a mecha able to deliver nuclear warheads anywhere in the world. Play is built on stealth and strategy; open combat is the last resort.
The range includes figures of the main characters as well as 1/100 model kits of the Metal Gear mechs.
