More about Mononoke
Mononoke (モノノ怪) is a twelve-episode anime series by Toei Animation that aired on Fuji TV in 2007. It is a spin-off of the Bakeneko story arc from the anthology Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales (2006) and follows the medicine seller Kusuriuri, who tracks down and exorcises spirits in feudal Japan. It was directed by Kenji Nakamura.
Each case centres on its own Mononoke; the episodes are divided into story arcs, for example around Zashiki Warashi, Umibōzu, Noppera-bō and Nue. With Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain (Karakasa), a feature film was released in Japan in July 2024, again directed by Nakamura.
Kusuriuri is available here as an ARTFX J figure by Kotobukiya and as a Nendoroid, among other items. The name also leads to Princess Mononoke by Studio Ghibli, a separate film.
