Fire Emblem begins on 20 April 1990 with Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light for the Famicom, developed by Intelligent Systems. Shouzou Kaga is regarded as the foundation of the series: he was its chief creative mind up to Thracia 776 and left the studio afterwards.
Most early entries were released only in Japan. Over the decades the tactical RPG series grew into a cosmos of its own continents, royal houses and armies, where each generation of players has its own way in: Awakening, Fates or Three Houses.
