Works

Pokémon began in 1996 as a Game Boy game by Game Freak and grew into a world of trading cards, manga, anime and figures.

More about Pokémon
Pokémon begins on 27 February 1996 in Japan, when Game Freak releases Pocket Monsters Red and Green for the Game Boy, based on an idea by Satoshi Tajiri. Tajiri had collected insects as a child, and that same catching and swapping became the core of the game.

The Game Boy link cable turned collecting into something shared between players: 151 creatures could be caught, trained and traded with one another. The games were followed by manga, anime and, still in October 1996, the trading card game that Media Factory published in Japan.

Here, the world of Pokémon runs from trading cards and manga to figures in very different formats.
