Prize (プライズ) refers in Japan to products developed specifically as prizes for crane games and other machines in arcades: figures, plush, cushions, key chains. They are "amusement-only" goods and normally do not go into regular retail in Japan. Checked goods sometimes carry the AM Prize mark of the industry association JAIA.
That framework explains the character: prizes are subject to a cap on goods value, mostly around 1,000 yen. Prize figures are therefore not scale figures with a fixed ratio, but independently designed poses and chibi formats. Re-releases are rare, and many designs appear only once. Banpresto began making arcade prizes in 1990; lines such as Q Posket came later.
