Izuminokami Kanesada belonged to the vice-captain of the Shinsengumi, Hijikata Toshizou, who had him forged so he matched his wakizashi. Most likely that is the reason why he and Horikawa Kunihiro look like brothers, although Kanesada is actually the younger one. This 12th generation Kanesada-sword was forged 1867, which was almost the end of the samurai era. His character is based on Hijikata, as well as his utterances in the game. He makes a bit of an arrogant impression, though he looks great and fights well, so we forgive him if he has a healthy self-confidence. However, it seems he does not search Kunihiro's company as much as vice versa. Nevertheless they are seen together in the anime most of the time and are often shown next to each other on merchandise. So it is fortunate that we have Kunihiro as a nendoroid, too, sold separately!
